One Wrong Turn...

I recently picked my son up from a friends house. He had been to this friends house many times and I have traveled to their home on several occasions. Their home has several routes that can be taken to get there and I have traveled them. They live in a subdivision where if you don't know where you're going, you can get lost and be taken miles away from your destination.

The most recent visit, I made it to the home just fine. I picked up my son, we started talking and I asked how the visit was, what they did, what they ate, typical mom questions. As I reached the stop sign at the end of the street, I had my right turn signal on. My son, who does not have a license told me to turn left as he knows a short cut to get out. They'd gone swimming that day and this was the route they took, so he said. So I listened to him and made the left turn. Now, I’m driving through unfamiliar territory all because I listened to my son. I reached several dead ends and made multiple turns trying to finagle my way through this residential area. I was totally unsuccessful. I even tried to retrace my steps to at least get us back to his friends home, but that didn't work either. After about seven or so minutes of burning gas, I pulled over and typed my residence into my gps to guide us home.

This was a great reminder to me to never allow someone to mislead you. Granted, my son did not intentionally get us lost. I should have used wisdom to know that I was in control of the vehicle and I knew where to go. In life it's so easy to get caught up in trying to listen to outside sources for guidance. You have the knowledge that it takes to navigate through life, use it. Social media can be a distraction as well as a detour to what God has for you. Be mindful of who and what you allow to lead you. Also, don’t ever feel as if you have journeyed so far away that you can’t go back to the Father for guidance. He is always present and awaiting your call!

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
